Kanyes Dairy Goat Farm- is an urban based zero-grazing management project which has been in operation since 28^th July 2018. It started with 2 goats but currently the Project has 30 mature goats with average milk production of 10 litres per day. We are involved in breeding goats for sustainability of the farm, produce fresh goat milk for consumption and also use the goatmilk to manufacture bathing soap, body lotion, shower gel, massage cream and foot soak. We also obtain urine and manure from the goats which is used in farm agriculture (pasture improvement, banana and vegetable garden and some of it is sold to other farmers as well as improving the environment. We have made an organic fertilizer (Kanyes Organic Fertilizer) which will be sold to farmers,

The founder- Juliet Kanyesigye had a health challenge which had disturbed her life for about 6 months without any solution. She had rotated and sought help from high profile consultants here in Uganda but the health situation had not improved. One day she shared with her cousin about her heath issue and she referred me to a Korean trained Doctor who was administering herbal medicine to various patients- cancer, sickle cell, diabetes, elderly among others.  Among the recommendations this Doctor gave was to drink goat milk but at that time, the supply was irregular and quality was poor.  A tin of goat milk costed 240,000ugx which was very expensive and could not be sustained.

This led me to make inquiries about dairy goats and finally got information about their availability from NGO projects. I bought one goat which produced 1.5 litres of milk daily but I could not consume all the milk. I started giving out the milk free to fellow patients seeking the same service and had health issues like cancer, sickle cell, allergies, HIV/AIDS, elderly, lactose intolerant and premature babies. Due to increased demand from these patients, I purchased more goats to serve their needs. That is how the dairy goat project came into being.

During COVID 19 lockdown, the farm was producing 15 lires of milk per day but not all would be consumed by the clients due to mobility challenges. To overcome this challenge, we embarked on research on how to improve the shelf life of the milk. The research findings showed that many dairy goat producing countries like Europe, Asia and some in Africa were involved in different aspects of value addition, which encouraged us to expand. Together with a Consultant, we did a pilot of manufacturing bathing soap and lotion and the results on the skin were amazing. Since then, production started and we are steadily growing this line of production and expanding to others.
